Summary: Independently design and document mechanical components and assemblies utilizing 3D CAD software and company bill of material system. To develop and sustain close working relationships with engineers and other designers in evaluating and improving designs that meet product performance standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (Other duties may be assigned):
Produces detailed designs of components and mechanisms consistent with provided general directions and product information.
Components and mechanisms consistently meet their engineering specifications as established.
Regular communication with designers, design engineers, and manufacturing engineers creates and sustains a good working relationship and enhances the quality and quantity of work performed. Verbal and written communication is clear and concise.
There is compliance and conformance with all established safety protocols and procedures.
Responsible with cognizant engineer that consideration is given for correct proportions, allowable stress, speed, weight, operational details, manufacturing methods, tolerances and costs in regard to overall designs.
Due diligence and regularly scheduled design reviews reduce costs and help minimize delays at all stages of the development process.
Schedules, leads and documents design review meetings.
Plans, coordinates and leads the experimental manufacture and testing of prototype assemblies if and when required.
The prototyping process is led and coordinated within the framework of the company''s overall R&D; plan.
Develops and maintains a broad knowledge and understanding of the laboratory, shop, engineering, manufacturing, purchasing and vendor functions and interface relationships between and among such functions.
There is a thorough understanding of fabricating and manufacturing processes of components and assemblies.
Ensures that all established protocols and procedures covering documentation and data storage are clearly understood and consistently followed.
Leads the design and documentation effort, ensuring documentation and data storage standards are followed during the development process.
Produces bills of material (BoMs) for product designs and writes engineering and field change orders (ECOs and FCOs) on products.
BoMs, ECOs and FCOs are current, complete, and accurate.
Participates in overall project planning and design evaluation reviews, providing input as appropriate.
Technical input consistently adds value to these processes.
Develops and maintains a knowledge and understanding of regularly available information resources and systems including but not limited to catalogs, web pages, internal bills of material (BoM) processors and design handbooks.
Resources are known and utilized as appropriate.
Develops an awareness of process and product opportunities that would benefit the company.
Recommendations and suggestions are carefully considered, well documented and typically accepted by Stratasys Inc.
Contributes to the development of proprietary property including patents and disclosures that have potential benefits for the company.
Contributions fit within the framework of the company''s strategy for developing, testing, and adopting proprietary technologies.
Keeps the supervisor, responsible engineer and development team informed of important matters, including schedule, budget and performance.
Demonstrates commitment to Stratasys Core Values by leading, acting and behaving in a manner consistent with these values.
Follows all company safety policies and procedures and attend all safety trainings related to the job.
Essential Education, Skills and
Experience:
Must be a US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident.
Associate in Arts (AA) degree or equivalent and 6-8 years of relevant experience.
Solid Works CAD experience highly desirable.
Ability to independently perform work assignments with minimal direction and instruction.
Skill and ability to lead and coordinate prototype assembly and evaluation as scheduled or assigned.
Ability to effectively communicate technical information verbally or in writing.
Ability to consistently identify, access, and utilize available resources (literature, internal experts, vendors, company representatives, etc.)
Ability to work well with others.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:
Work is typically performed in a temperature controlled inside environment.
There may be some lifting and movement of materials and equipment in the course of performing designer work.
