Job Description
Control Techniques, a business unit of Emerson Industrial Automation, is currently seeking an Application Engineer in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
The purpose of this position is to provide drive application support & development in an effort to grow sales at End-User, OEM and System Integrator accounts and meet the Company's sales objectives.
1) Work with OEMs, System integrators and End Users to provide a CT drive solution leveraging product functionality and performance to meet, or exceed customer's expectations.
2) Create and maintain drive application solutions and functions/function block libraries:
a) Software using CT programming tool for Application second processors or HMI's.
b) Documentation (URS, Manuals, Drawings, Application notes etc.) detailing machine control.
3) Creation of sizing and development tools to assist with the application, MathCAD, Excel, custom VB applications.
4) Work closely other teams/department to facilitate the following areas: -
a) Technical Support, Regional Applications Engineer & Field Service
i) Engage in technical handover meetings/training for proven customer solutions with Technical Support and Field Service.
ii) Provide advanced/higher level technical application support/consultation.
iii) Assists in the definition and delivery of appropriate technical training in coordination with the training department.
b) Systems
i) Assist with system software development when required, (Drive Application software, PLC, SCADA, etc).
ii) Provide advanced/higher level technical drive application support/consultation.
c) Sales
i) Prepare technical PowerPoint presentations of the drive application solutions detailing features and benefits.
ii) Assist and/or take a lead role in demonstrating CTA products and capabilities to customers. Must gain a high level understanding of all current CT products.
iii) Make scheduled on-site visits with regional sales team to OEM and End User accounts to gather technical data and provide guidance in the application and selection of Control Techniques Products.
iv) Interface and maintain a positive business relationship with the Sales team and all Drive Center personnel, to coordinate an effective results oriented team that increases sales and broadens knowledge on the application of the products.
5) Prepared to travel and be away from home approximately 30% of the year at intervals no longer than 2 weeks duration.
Examples of Performance Criteria:
1. Meet all projected quote requirements for engineered product and engineered project solutions.
2. Provide technically viable, cost effective customer solutions.
3. Provide valuable input into the definition of potential new products and successfully encourage their acceptance into Control Technique's product line.
4. React and interact with the Director of Applications and Sales/Marketing team on application priorities and needs.
Job Requirements
1) Minimum of five years of drive application engineering, commercial awareness is also important.
2) Four year technical engineering degree, (BSE, BSEE, BSEET, BSME, BSMET) required and or equivalent.
3) Proficient with programming Automation software development:
i) IEC-61131 (LAD, FBD, SFC, ST, IL)
ii) Motion Control Programming.
iii) Visualization
(2) HIMI
(3) VB, C#, etc.
iv) Networking
(1) Ethernet -
(2) Fieldbus - e.g. Profibus, Devicenet, CANopen.
4) Drive Experience with fractional HP to MW's:
a) AC - Servo, Closed loop & Open Loop vector, VFD and Regen.
b) DC - Closed loop and Armature feedback
5) Have a wide range of drive application experience with Motion, Web control, material handling, HVAC, etc. With the knowledge of sizing, electrical/mechanical and the fundamentals for the correct operation of the system.
6) Awareness of applicable UL/IEC standards.
7) Discipline in the following areas with the creation of new customer solutions: -
a) Project management
b) Creation of URS.
c) Research and simulation
d) Code development
e) Testing & Verification. (in house and on site)
f) Documentation
8) Able to work evenings and/or week-ends occasionally
9) Able to travel overnight

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
